A shared tab is a group space for trips, roommates, or events. Members add expenses, see who owes whom, and record settlements together.

How do settlements work?

SplitByMe shows net balances per person and suggests minimal transfers so fewer payments settle everyone. You record when money changes hands.

Can I track personal spending too?

Yes. The Personal tab is for your own expenses, optional categories, and history—alongside any shared tabs you use.

How are group balances calculated?

Terms and Conditions

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and SplitByMe ("we," "us," or "our") when you access or use the SplitByMe website, mobile app, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility and Account Responsibility

You must be legally able to enter into a contract in your jurisdiction. You are responsible for all activity under your account and for maintaining the security of your credentials. You agree to provide accurate information and keep it up to date.

3. Service Purpose and No Financial Advice

SplitByMe is a budgeting and expense-sharing coordination tool. We do not provide banking, payment processing, accounting, tax, legal, or financial advice. Any settlement suggestions are informational only. You are solely responsible for verifying balances, currencies, and payment decisions.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Use the Service for unlawful, fraudulent, or misleading activity.
Interfere with security, reverse engineer, or attempt unauthorized access.
Upload malware or content that violates rights of others.
Use automated methods to scrape, copy, or abuse the Service without written consent.

We may suspend or terminate access immediately if we reasonably believe your use violates these Terms or creates risk for users, us, or third parties.

5. User Content and License

You retain ownership of expense entries, notes, and other content you submit. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, reproduce, and display such content solely to operate, secure, maintain, and improve the Service.

You represent that you have the rights needed to submit that content and that it does not violate law or third-party rights.

6. Intellectual Property

The Service, including trademarks, logos, software, design, and content provided by us, is owned by SplitByMe or its licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. Except for limited rights to use the Service under these Terms, no rights are granted to you.

7. Third-Party Services

The Service may include links or integrations with third-party platforms (such as app stores or analytics providers). We are not responsible for third-party products, services, or content, and your use of them is governed by their own terms and policies.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SplitByMe and its affiliates, officers, employees, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, goodwill, or business opportunities, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

Our aggregate liability for all claims related to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD $100.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless SplitByMe and its affiliates from and against claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

11. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, for conduct that we reasonably believe violates these Terms, applicable law, or creates risk or harm. Sections that by nature should survive termination will survive.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted with a revised effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of your principal operating jurisdiction, excluding conflict of laws principles. You agree that courts located in that jurisdiction will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes related to these Terms or the Service, unless applicable consumer law provides otherwise.
